Ok let me start by saying there are definitely more than 7 reasons to tempt you to relocate to this glorious part of Queensland, but how long have you got, and how many do you really need?
You’ll never take a bad photo in this light
Have you seen how seriously photogenic the Sunny Coast (what you’ll be calling it when you become a local) is? Everything is insta-worthy… the people, the beaches, the waterfalls, the Glass House mountains, the national parks, even the food. Pinch us now.
You’ll never take a bad photo in this light
Think Sunshine Coast, think outdoor activity. Here’s a few highlights…
• Tour the protected Noosa everglades by kayak or boat
• Climb a mountain, we can think of at least 11 (clue: Glass House Mountains)
• Just add water and go surfing, snorkelling, diving, boating, spear fishing, cliff jumping, stand-up paddle boarding, jet skiing, you get the idea?
• Did someone say hiking? How about rainforest, mountains, national parks, take your pick.
• Beach driving/camping – load up the 4WD and join the pilgrimage from Noosa north shore to Rainbow beach
Just paradise
If you have even been tempted to move to the Sunshine Coast, chances are these three reasons were top of your list. Sparkling blue ocean and white sandy beaches abound, just 2 hours north-east of Brissy, it’s perfectly located in a fertile region famous for its produce and award-winning restaurants. And if that isn’t enough, the temperatures are mild enough year-round that you can toss out half of your winter wardrobe. Need we say more?
Leading the way for high-tech infrastructure
Here’s a reason you might not have considered and probably didn’t know. In 2019, the Sunny Coast was recognised as one of the Top 7 Intelligent Communities globally, alongside Canada, Taiwan and Chicago. And, Maroochydore is set to become a smart city complete with environmental sensors, an extensive free wifi zone, automatic waste collection systems, and the Sunshine Coast Council (SCC) app that distributes information about local events, storms and road closures. Guess that means residents will be smarter too?
They don’t call it the Sunshine Coast for nothing
The people running the show up here are the first local government in the country to have developed a 15MW solar farm to offset their entire electricity consumption with renewable energy. It’s a Council that is harnessing its greatest natural resource, the sun, to put it ahead of the race for a more environmentally responsible future. And, with millions of dollars in savings on electricity costs over the next 3 decades, it’s literally putting money back in the pockets of those ratepayers lucky enough to live here.
Fly in, fly out of paradise
With upgrades to the Sunshine Coast Airport including the opening of a new runway, you’ll have all the access you need to the rest of the country or indeed the world. You’ll be able to fly to Canberra for meetings and be home by the weekend to go surfing at your favourite break. As the fastest growing airport in Australia, it’s also a good bet your family and friends could be among the more than one million passengers who visit annually. In fact, that could be a negative depending how you look at it.
